The guy furthest to the left in this picture is Devin's best friend Matt! He and 5 of his brothers are in the Army (one's missing from this picture), I don't know how his mom does it! We have always included all of the soldiers at war in our family prayers right along with the missionaries, but we pray for these ones by name. The only one I know personally is Matt and I know at least him and Brent (the one right next to him) have done tours in Iraq. In fact, Brent just recently returned home from an 18 month tour. He and his family (wife and 2 small children) sacrificed more than I can even begin to imagine for 18 months. For some unknown reason to me Liam has been thinking a lot about the fact that Matt is a soldier. He has this conversation to who ever will listen.
Whoever is listening: "No"
Liam: "Well, he's in the army! (pause) Cool, huh?"
I'm glad that Liam is realizing at such a young age what the soldiers are going through to defend our country! And that he is proud of the fact to personally know a soldier in the United States Army. I am thankful for Matt and his brothers as well as the rest out there who are brave enough and willing to serve in the Army. I hope everyone remembers them in your prayers!

My dad is a retired Colonel in the Air Force. I grew up in the military and sort of took it for granted what the armed forces does for our country. It was my dad's job and the job of all of my friend's dad. We moved and saw places and sometimes my dad was away for a while (thankfully not in harms way). Right after 911 my friend signed up. He WANTED to serve our country. His dad is a retired AF pilot. It was then that I realized that there are men out there defending the country they love...because they choose to do it. I often forget to remember them in our prayers....I forget a lot of things. Thanks for the reminder.
That is so wicked cool. I have so much respect for them. That mother has got to be an amazing person. I will keep her in my prayers as well as the boys. What a great example. Thanks for sharing Tami!
Totally amazing! I don't know how she does it! She must be proud!:)
We certainly owe Matt and his family our debt of gratitude. It's easy to take our privileged lives for granted and forget why it's possible we have this amazing country. Thanks Matt!
